Innovating Creative New Designs That Solve Problems
This young engineer found a company that's just right.
I am a Product Line Support Engineer at STANLEY Engineered Fastening, a division of Stanley Black & Decker. My main responsibility is to determine the best fastening and installation tooling method that satisfy the assembly requirements. Specifically, I am involved with the POP® and Avdel® product lines which include precision blind rivets, high-strength lockbolts, and blind rivet nuts. I assist customers with direct inquires and support the sales team with their opportunities: We’re the technical experts. When the customer has a problem, we will work with them to determine a solution either by implementing a part we offer, creating a new design, or modifying a current design to meet their needs. It's very collaborative.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. I majored in this field because I have always loved math and science as well as the creative aspect of engineering. I was interested in knowing how things work and innovating creative new designs that solves a problem. In my role, I learn about all various applications our fasteners are used in and work with the engineers to implement them into the assembly. I feel very lucky to be at Stanley and I found it to be a supportive environment for women engineers.
One thing I really appreciate about STANLEY Engineered Fastening is that while it is a multi-national organzation with facilities all over the world, they're not too large where an employee is just a number. It is just the right size for me — big enough that I can work on multiple projects that interest me but small enough where I can have a hands-on role in them. I can also use my voice and have my needs met, and in talking with some of my friends, I know that that’s not true at every company that’s a household name like Stanley is.
